Its back to the drawing board then.

Just two points:-

As Branwen pointed out what feels like eons ago, the solstice sun does more or less stay in the same position for three days, which is why midsummer's day falls on the 24th June. I'm happy to be corrected on that if I'm too way off the mark.

Secondly, don't you think English Heritage make enough money throughout the rest of the year (in fact over just one bank holiday) by charging tourists whatever it is they charge for walking around the stone circle without being able to cross the rope, talk about money for old ...

I wouldn't pay it on principle anymore than I would pay some exorbitant amount to go around a cathedral which is also 'my' heritage. So people like me really do miss out on the Stonehenge experience since I have no desire to join thousands of other people who I don't know from Adam (or Bill) on one day of the year.

In fact thinking about it I've just joined the Give The Nation Back Stonehenge campaign. I'll be happy to pay if they take the rope away.
