PS: If anyone wants to start a topic about toxic places I would suggest they are all relatively modern - nuclear power stations, motorways etc, etc.

I went with Blossom to visit a couple of absolutely top drawer standing stones and a stone circle on Saturday (Bwlch y Ddeufaen and Cerrig Pryfaid). An outstanding setting, looking down the valley, with the northern Carneddau mountains above. Sadly three rows of pylons all converge on the spot, which does spoil the feel quite badly - although the stones themselves are magnificent enough to compensate.

We had a conversation about how context is everything - I remember as a child I used to go to Nottingham with my Dad and the highlight of the motorway journey for me was seeing the lines and lines of pylons marching across the flat countryside. Because there's not much else to see. Whereas up in the Welsh mountains they detract terribly.
