Re: Unexplained uneasy feeling

...so I thought I'd ask if anyone else has experienced unusual and frightening feelings when visiting a particular site or landmark.

Yes... the Barrow Cat...

Mid 60s... Marlborough, Wiltshire, about 5 in the morning. Went looking for mushrooms for breakfast with a couple of friends. Down a farm track for a bit. Mangy old cat came out of a hedge. Took up a position about ten foot in front of us, on the lane. We walked on... cat in front... We’d stop, the cat’d stop. We’d walk on, so would the cat. Again and again. It went on for a bit and then left, under a gate. It looked back... we looked at it and followed.

Up on the ridge were a couple of round barrows. The cat went on, turning every now and then to check us out. We followed. Climbed one of the barrows and stood there. Early morning. Three of us – and the cat on the barrow.

Quiet, and then a howl... the thing leapt at a friend and landed on his shoulder, sitting, spitting and hissing there... True story (but worse, no mushrooms for breakfast).
