Unexplained uneasy feeling
Jul 03, 2011, 18:35
Gladman started a very intersting thread, 'Why do we do this?' and there have been some wonderful replies thus far naming sites, places and what appeals about them etc etc, but I'd like to ask if amongst all the stone circles, barrows, cairns, henges and so forth you have visited there are any that you've had a bad feeling about?
I've only had that experience once and that was when I was on holiday with my parents when I was about 20. I wasn't new to this as I'd been into the subject since a boy investigating all the sites of my homeland in Jersey. Well we were touring around with a caravan and just come away from that village where they filmed 'The Prisoner' and looking for a place to park the caravan for the night when I saw a sign pointing up a track which just said, 'To the Burial Mound'.
We found a spot for the van just a few hundred yards away and while the folks were getting tea ready I thought I'd take our two dogs for a walk and find this track. I found it easily enough and started walking up it and was quite excited at what I might see. It was a beautiful evening but as I walked up this track which was quite open I began to feel somewhat uneasy. I had no reason to feel thet way I just did. Anyway I carried on and the dogs were being dogs and running here and there when suddenly about 200 yards away I could see 'the mound'. A hundred yards further on and there were two standing stones, one either side of the track which seemed to stop at this point. As I walked toward them I felt really bothered and my legs became very heavy and laboured. I was beginning to feel like I was tied to a long piece of elastic and the further I walked the tighter it bacame and it was trying to pull me back. But it was when both of my dogs stopped dead right between the two standing stones and started growling whilst looking toward the mound that I became really quite scared. It was still about 100yrds away in this field and in broad daylight but I just couldn't go on any further. I tried really hard but a 'force' seemed to be holding me back.
I've owned dogs since I was a kid and know that they are very perceptive and Rebel and Patch saw something that day that I couldn't but felt its evil presence.
I told my mother and father and dad was up for going and having a look for himself but I would have none of it and I've wondered about it ever since and have never experienced the likes again so I thought I'd ask if anyone else has experienced unusual and frightening feelings when visiting a particular site or landmark.
