Some do, especially at the more well-known sites; they come in the shape of benefit fraudsters, impersonators, drug and alcohol layabouts, litterbugs and louts (and they’re just the ones still to pass over ;-)
Malevolence comes in many guises doesn't it, you don't have to have a drug or alcohol dependency or be a benefit 'fraudster' to suffer from it. I thought Moss's post was about stones not the people who visit them - or was that a far too simplistic interpretation. I agree with your later post Moss, when you talk about 'the spirit of a place' - something intangible though when all is said and done, subjective.
