Some very good points. The problem is that there is no criteria to define the heritage and historic nature of vast stretches of landscape eg. the countyside around East Coker would certainly qualify, but it's not Green Belt and therefore not protracted. This is a common problem in largely rural areas - it's there for the taking and public opposition means nothing in the face of grredy developers and local councils on the make.
