Yes, the deposits were found at the bottom and the theory was that they were washed down the hillside by rain. What I was querying was why your enthusiatic C17 restorers would have disturbed these deposits at the bottom of the hill? Surely they would have worked on the figure itself, which is well up the hillside from the deposits in question.
