I read that somewhere too. It was suggested that a lionskin cloak was draped over his lower arm. Conjecture was that it was Hercules or possibly a Roman Emporer. Some of the comparitively recent white horses were cut over much earlier ones and that may also apply to Cerne and Wilmington. Its possible that Cerne was originally Roman, but the penis is just too much of a lewd joke. How many Roman statues are so randy? But then again there are the wall paintings of Pompei and all those little phallic brothel rings and tokens. It will be interesting to see what Aubrey has to say, but surely no one thinks that Cerne is really pre-Roman do they? If TMA is going to be consistent about pre-Roman coverage, then it makes sense to cull later images and possibly get a new logo. Pity though.
