Its not easy to summarise the research methods and findings covered by Aubrey's programme. Doubtless, they will be published somewhere. I'm sceptical about some archaeological research and errors have been made, but this was pretty convincing. Cerne's chalk wasn't tested, but the archival rcord was convincing. Pre-reformation monks would not have let him flaunt himself in front of their abbey and there is no record of his existance until 1694. Stylistically, he is very similar to figures on 17th and early 18th century plates and pots. Convinced me entirely.

However, there must be more prehistoric figures out there. Unreasonable to suppose that none were carved in the Bronze Age except Uffington. Even more unlikely that no more were carved until Wilmington. Lets go find 'em.
