Special is probably an alternative to sacred but ...

There is still an oral tradition in north Bolton and it is that the hill is sacred. 'It was built by our prehistoric ancestors and we should be in awe of that acheivement' is sort-of making it sacred. I'm starting to suspect that in prehistoric time the hill would have seen semi-brutal games of hand football on its slopes at a specific time of the year - Christmas maybe.

But then these highly-rounded are arguably the most beautiful type of hills known. So maybe it was natural beauty that was actually revered.
