Yes, I understand all that and this is a megalithic forum - the only connection is whether (or not) the ancients were copying stuff they saw in stands of grass and cereal when they were building the circles. It's just speculation, of course.

I don't like to admit it but the trigger for supposing some of the circles were caused 'by an unknown agency' was Nancy Talbot's scientific results. Particularly soil kaolinisation, as that is something I know about after being involved in ceramic research and with firing pots of my own. It was a graph that pushed me over the edge. Not the design aesthetic. Planks and feet don't produce that much heat when they compact soil ...

Shall I hunt around for a recent squashed crop that can't be laid out with string ? How about the Arecibo face ? I hope I've spelt that correctly. There was another at Chilbottom, too. Or have I just invented that placename ?
