The Housesteads entry, I never thought of that, serves me right for being so romophobic ;)
So it could be prehistoric, medeival or post medieval, depending on who you read. I'm even more confused with the refs to the two earthworks, one is supposed to have been a roman well, but has no sign of stones, the other, which contains the stone in the pic, is partially obscured by a culverted stream, and damn boggy to boot.
FW, the alignment has the narrow face to the SW/NE, but don't get me started on the natural features in the area, I'll end up wearing out me keyboard ;)
