I suggest that most ancient sites these days are within a few miles of a landfill/tip/recycling point, so perhaps the visit to the site could be combined with a visit to the sacred pile of rubbish provided by the Council. Any offerings can easily be left there without offence (remember to sort coloured glass though first).
