Yeah, that's pretty much my understanding, too! Seems that most people who leave these "offerings" don't even know why they're doing it!

Such a shame - that's our favourite well... Always go out of our way for a visit when in Cornwall. Always seeemed to be teetering *just* on the right side of tasteful whenever we've been there! Which hasn't been for a while, sadly...
