I'm finding this discussion very interesting, although I'm not sure which side of it I'm on! Interesting stuff folks.

One little thing there though Branwen - although I can see your point about being tolerant of others views, I am pretty wary of anything that might damage a site in any way. As such, I'm a little worried about the idea of you burying something (peg doll) at a site - doesn't that risk causing damage (soil erosion, disturbance of the natural surrounds)?
