"even your Mr Swift knows my views
about our anchient stones,historic places"

Um, do I?!

I do know you say they should be protected but I'm struggling with this Kevmar the Konservationist concept. It just doesn't fit with being opposed to any suggestion that you shouldn't detect on any of the one million known but unprotected archaeological sites in England, nor with your vehement opposition to licensing - both of which would have major conservation benefits.

What, precisely, is the difference between "anchient stones, historic places" and those million sites?

How come detectorists "wouldn't dream" of touching the first lot but spend half their waking hours combing the records and studying Google Earth to find the second lot?

Do try to answer Kevmar. If you seriously want to convince anyone here that your hobby isn't horribly erosive questions like this have to be addressed.
