Still waiting for you to prove them right. ;)

Well Cymap, you seem like an intelligent person, so perhaps you can step back a moment from your own interest in these figures being shown to be wrong and try to see what the average onlooker will see here.

- The "metal detectorist" Kevmar is sitting on the results of a survey conducted with the help of other "metal detectorists" on the UKDN forum to offset precisely this kind of criticism about the rate of erosion of the archaeological record by artefact hunting.

- These results were made available to "metal detectorists" on UKDN for a while but then removed from view. Why? Why were such important figures [compiled in the defence of "detecting" remember] not archived for permanent reference like other important information is on UKDN?

- The moment the survey was mentioned here today what did Kevmar do? He warned against "plagiarism". Who? Well, obviously those who he suspects of having COPIES of those figures made when they were accessible !

And who might that be? :>)

The onlooker can come to a number of conclusions about these facts coupled with Kevmar's obvious prevarication here ("beach detecting" jibes and so on).

These would run something like this:

(a) That, contrary to original expectations, the results of the UKDN survey showed that HA's figures are entirely acceptable (HA was probably well aware of the results of the survey when calculating their numbers).

(b) the results of the survey was hidden by UKDN because it was aware of what the results unexpectedly showed about the hobby,

(c) Kevmar cannot reveal these results because it would immediately shatter any illusions some might have that there is doubt about HA's figures.

(d) Kevmar is warning against anyone else revealing "his" (well, actually they are not his really) results, hoping by this means to keep them out of public view.

Ask yourself Cymap, if the UKDN survey had produced results showing that HA's figures were way out (too big), then surely Kevmar would jump at the opportunity to reveal them, once and for all discrediting HA and "detecting's" critics. What is the most logical explanation of why he has not done this?

And why don't YOU urge him to produce those results (entrusted to him by your detecting mates) if you are so sure that HA's figures are "flawed"? If you are so deeply convinced that the resultsof the UKDN survey will reveal HA's figures to be wrong, why not persuade Kevmar to reveal all? Will you do that? My guess is no, because I am sure that in reality you too can see why he's now so desperately trying to hide them and change the topic.
