Come off it Cymap, my precise words were "we did sort of anticipate that whatever the figures cited they would be attacked!" I hardly think that's a cause for genuine offence. If you really want to be offended just ask me to give you both barrels on my opinion of the bankrupt philosophical and moral wasteland that is your hobby. If you wanted to live in harmony with people who care about heritage you should have taken up "giving" not "taking". No-one minds twitchers but everyone has a problem with egg collectors.

More to the point:
Two detectorists here appear to be vehemently opposed to being subject to licensing but have failed to explain why, despite multiple requests.
I am content to think most people here are well capable of working out why and concluding it is further evidence for why licensing is not only desireable but urgent.
