I would fight flat out against restricted use of a metal detectors
by (permit ) .
You have no other reason but to destroy the hobby for the sake of it.
I'll put it on record here and now that I have no
objection to special sites of archaeological importance
being made off limits ,no problem with that at all.
The corner of a field that 'might' have something of importance
that's made out of bounds on a hunch I'm against.
It's the fact that you and your 'supporter 'want detecting banned for no good reason that angers me.
Of course there are areas that should only be excavated by
archaeologists,but bear in mind,some of these places were
not known about untill chanced upon by a detectorist that duly reported things
otherwise they might never have been found ,or perhaps after any information they could have provided is destroyed by erosion, natural or chemical.
I have it on good authority that your words are unreasonable,
and unworkable,like it or not detecting as a hobby is here to stay,
get used to it,
many others who do have some clout have done,
so whether you do or not makes little difference.
