OK. Were they different? If you look at the later people known to use as Celts and compare them to the Romans then there's a bloody great difference! The Romans welcomed change and technology. The Celts liked the status quo (no quips please! either about the band or the fact that it's a Roman saying :-).

The Celts made the best wheels in the known world. They made the best enamel jewelry. The had the best weaving techniques. They were very advanced. They built their homes out of wood (mainly).

It is far more likely that the megalith builders were closer to the Celts than the Romans in lifestyle attitudes.

Worse than being Roman-minded we are Germanically minded - hence our majority need for efficiency and not art. This differentiation is one of Julian's finer ones.

There were very everyday different needs and there was a very different religious purpose to the ancients. Survival was prime and appeasing the gods was the biggest part of that.
