I agree with that, if they could make it easier they would. The theory against it - that they used extra strength through hysteria or faith doesn't work for me because even if each person doubled their strength they'd still need an unfeasibly large number to do basic uphill dragging. Ergo, they made it easier by mechanical means.

Gordon has never said his method WAS the method. But I think he's got a strong claim if we adopt the working hypothesis that "easiest"="most likely". Not to do so is to say they were psychologically totally different from us, which is a big claim.
