Stone shifting - was it just about effort?

That's got me thinking.
It does hurt when you try and shift a stone that's just too bleedin heavy. If you don't have a good reason to continue, you do give up. However, if you persevere for whatever reason, it stops hurting as the endorphins kick in. You know when you see marathon runners who've "got through the wall" they look pretty zonked out. Trance state almost.
In a early society, it might have had a revelatory effect if some bunch of stone shifting advocates turn up and say "Hey folks! If you can drag a stone along the deck, it'll help you get closer to the (gods/goddesses/ancestors/spirits of place etc)."

It would be a extra addition to any conciousness altering rituals. I know it gives me a nice warm feeling when I can move (addmittedly modest) stones. Even though I might not be able to move my arm for the next few days.

Just a thought, I can't see it being picked up by the mainstream at all ;-)
