There is such a striking similarity between certain sites that it could be postulated that there were travelling teams of monument builders.
Places like Wardhouse in NW Ireland has a court tomb, a passage tomb, a Burren style wedge tomb, a more standard wedge tomb and a portal tomb. My first impression was that it was a bloody megalithic showroom!
Also, at Glebe near Cong there are four stone circles that are all different styles. "Any shape you want mate, as long as it's round!"
Perhaps this happened in the Bronze Age when 'money' became popular, so the 5-stone stone circles of Cork could well have been garden furniture or made to order, but in the Neolithic? I'm not so sure.
Also, the travelling stone masons did the finery. A lot of local grunts were still needed to move the stone around.
