My thoughts entirely.

And also there is the concept of ritual - in other words, even though better way's may have been thought of, it is also likely that these would have been seen as a break with tradition - if it's not done in such a way the ritual is not complete.

Another point made on the lecture was that stones are being dragged to this day, so it is certainly possible to drag stones, although the lecture was pretty vague on actually how this was done..
