Re: Sense of Place/Wildness

Well, Carlos Castaneda in his first book (before he went a bit potty with his others) recounts don Juan Matus’ instructions to find ‘a safe place’ because he’s about to encounter something where he’s definitely going to need it! Think Castaneda’s safe place was on a veranda somewhere. The same idea of a safe place, or a safe something, is found in most cultures – which kind of brings us back to moss’ ‘power of place’ (though she doesn’t like that expression very much).

It can’t be denied that some places feel more ‘comfortable, welcoming, meaningful or unpleasant’ than others, but the reasons for that could be anything.
