If you look at the TMA site entitled Levisham Moor, you’ll find an iron bloomery dated c.100 b.c. and there were certainly some earlier than that because we‘ve found iron artefacts in barrows from c.500 b.c. These bloomeries burned several acres of trees to produce one ton of iron (I have an estimated figure somewhere but can‘t find it right now). So raping the earth and polluting the atmosphere began centuries before we ever even heard of Christianity.

I’m not a Christian. But it just doesn’t ring true to me when all the evils of the world are placed at the door of any single body of people. We’ve all done our bit.

I am glad you have made this post Hotaire, not because I agree with what Bladup said or the manner in which he said it. Historically it is true that the 'Church' is guilty of many crimes against humanity over the centuries - from purging of the Cathars to the persecution of village herbalists as witches and thats before we even get on to the decimation of indigenous cultures by missionaries. However, you can no more blame the average church-goer for that than we can blame ourselves for, say for example, slavery.

I am a non-religious person but at one end the Christian spectrum you can find people like the Quakers who practice silent worship, have no creed and work diligently for peace and tolerance. In no way am I judging Bladup, I don't know anything about him except that he built a stone circle which was later dismantled by the authorities ... is this where his anger comes from and is it directed at the 'establishment' in general. There are many people walking around who feel outside of society for whatever reason ... surely it is better to find out why before dismissing them.
