Your mention of St.Cedd's church at Bradwell on Sea hit a chord ;). We have been a couple of times, its austere, beautiful, in the middle of nowhere on the edge of the estuary, and feels 'northern' in its bleakness. It also has a large stone inside the church in the corner, for what reason I don't know. Founded in 653 ad, Cedd came down by the sea from Iona, and built this place in the entrance of the roman walls there.
