Hadiography, that's a massive subject covering a massive amount of subjects. I'm sure every world religion and their writings uses them and I'm pretty sure they all pinched bits from each other to make themselves and their leading lights look much better. Commentators use allegory, people add little bits to enhance a story and it all starts again.
