If you look at the TMA site entitled Levisham Moor, you’ll find an iron bloomery dated c.100 b.c. and there were certainly some earlier than that because we‘ve found iron artefacts in barrows from c.500 b.c. These bloomeries burned several acres of trees to produce one ton of iron (I have an estimated figure somewhere but can‘t find it right now). So raping the earth and polluting the atmosphere began centuries before we ever even heard of Christianity.

I’m not a Christian. But it just doesn’t ring true to me when all the evils of the world are placed at the door of any single body of people. We’ve all done our bit.
