I'm not sure which particular 'crap' you are referring to, but I fear you are looking through rose tinted specs, Crop. Life was/is short, hard and brutal. For most people living today it still is. Men, women and children are/were worked to death, suffer/ed terrible disease and starvation, work/ed in appalling conditions. The bucolic picture you paint is simply not reality for most people and never has been.
