Hello Jane
I AM a philosopher and Ive got the certificate to proove it !
That programme was very satisfying and I'm really glad you bought it up in this thread because I wanted to, but cos im new I didnt want to be too irrelevant.
I think the basic problem is that we all have experience, which basically no one can argue with. eg if I see a big light in the sky then thats what I see.
Then what happens is that our rampant mind takes that experience and interprets it and often formulates a whole mental construct(ie belief) around it. eg the big light in the sky was the BVM / alien space ship (interpretation), therefore the BVM/ aliens exist (construct / belief).
Personally I find it more interesting to refrain from interpreting experiences and adopting limiting mental constructs. But I think its quite difficult for alot of people to be clear enough to see the difference between their experience and their interpretation of it. Scientists and mystics alike. Actually its probably normal !
