So we start with a vast number of brainless helium atoms that clump to make more complex elements and these aggregate into arrangements that understand what has happened....
A ludicrous proposition. But borne out by observation!

So was it the result of physics? or a plan? Or were the rules of physics part of the plan?

But either way, I would have thought a bigger and more likely plan wouldn't have ended with us as the goal. Collective consciousness, that'd be what the universe is striving for.
