I am however involved in a couple of exciting projects which involve actually getting the local community to fund the archaeology resources - and to drive them, setting the project plans and deliverables. There are still issues though, the communities still dramatically undervalue their own contribution and tend to "tug the forelock" to the archaeologist. They also overestimate the archaeologist's expertise in being able to correctly interpret and understand the local environment, but it is a start, One that I'm hoping to expand upon.
