Now you've really hurt me, shattered my world.

Were all ancient structures purely utilitarian? Were none invested with pride? Were all of them designed not to have any sympathetic visual connection with their surroundings, and located where they would least blend in? Can ditches and ramparts signify a complete lack of regard for appearance?

And so to bed, to sob.
