Well those who planted landscapes round stately homes with no hope of seeing them at their best had a certain noble quality about them that most of us don't.
And good for the mid-Victorians that planted Giant Redwoods in UK. Trouble is, none of them date from before about 1860 I think so we have yet to see them at their full height. It'll be a while....
