I had some Catholic family who experienced the Virgin Mary speaking to them. I also had a mate who experienced being abducted by UFOs and being taken on a tour of the solar system. I can think of many other likely explanations for either scenario, meaning that those personal experiences aren't "facts". The only "fact" is that someone has experienced SOMETHING. The interpretation of that something is a belief, not a fact.
If you're alluding to the cliche of mental health, this was not the case at all. It was an active haunting with phenomena experienced by a number of people. These things happened, and that IS a fact.
