Why on earth would sailors rely on the druids for an explanation of the tides? Spring tides occur every month and are extra high when the earth, moon and sun are aligned. See http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/astronomy/moon/Tides.shtml

Druids and other priests invent stories and use natural phenomena to boost their own ratings. Farmers, sailors and fisherfolk just get on with it and foolishly feed the holy parasites. They always have and still do.
