I find that the fact that some *specific* monuments are now being recognised (by mainstream archaeologists themselves) to be aligned with the equinox (two of them come to mind), as opposed to midwinter, may have to do with what you say there. Certain crops in certain regions may have indeed influenced an equinoctial festival, around easter time, depending also on the latitude, etc
