Nothing to elaborate on GP , I was merely thinking of the practical uses of astronomy .If you can pinpoint the equinoxes then you can get close to eclipse prediction which is a handy bit of juju for the Machiavellis The most obvious practical uses are ,as a navigational aid and tidal prediction . That some monuments have certain alignments is obvious and it was obviously an area of importance and expertise for the monument builders but I'm basically sceptical about most alignments , megalithic yards etc.
