Sorry if I have mistaken you, but are you saying that you need to study astronomy to know about the tides?

Sure - you need to observe the phases of the moon - is that astronomy?

Spring tides have nothing to do with the spring equinox, of course. A spring tide is the large rise and fall of the tide at or soon after the new or the full moon. Fishermen and sailors would know this from childhood and no astronomer/priests would be required.
