I think that supports my view. You can only see that face in that photograph because of the shadows in position at that time when the shutter clicked. I'm not saying that we, or earlier people, could never see faces in rocks. Sure - we do make those visual patterns and I fully support the notion that certain naturaly shaped stones might have be seen to have special religious signifance because of their resemblance to animals or humans.
