Theres no doubt that is & would have been the most important for the majority, but I think for some theres a difference between whats needed for basic survival & the importance of beliefs. If water, food etc was & always has been most important to the whole of humanity we wouldn't have martyrs. People wouldn't die for their cause, they'd be too busy worrying about their next meal.
