Is it a case of how far back can you go and say with any sort of certainty that a particular type of artefact, monument etc was a signifier of a religion /cosmology ? If so I would expect to find it in any situation where homo sapiens had enough time and energy to think . It may be a lot of old bollocks but it is what we do , although it looks like some of us may have managed to avoid it. I think there is a possibility that once started it becomes the most difficult belief to shift , famine , war , disease , are all trying but the faithful stay with it and when it's all over there is a resurgence .
