Precisely my point. At Beaghmore & Millin Bay (to name just two sites) monuments were built over failing field systems. Beaghmore being an extreme case of people possibly trying to please the gods to bring the food back rather than moving on.

I suppose the big question is not what prevails the-need-for-food or religion in times of need, but can religion start until you are well provided for?
