Just as hoaxers take delight in creating enigmatic crop circles, there seems to be a equally strong motivation to produce apocryphal "sightings" accounts. There is something called False Memory Syndrome that can account for such reports. As for the photographs, there are many possible reasons for the "lights"; double exposure, light leakage, deliberate fakery.
