Tom Yorke's high-pitched operatic emotional singing style seems very derived from Freddy Mercury to me. (Maybe he doesn't sing like this anymore -- it has literally been 10 years since I've heard one of their records!)
And the guitar wankery they were into back then was "classic British Rock" ala Jimmy Page and Brian May (if not nearly as "muso-virtuoso.")
I should think the Pink Floyd angle would be the most obvious ("spacy textures.")
Basically, I have always felt Radiohead was popular because they're following in the tradition of all those (huge-selling) classic UK bands . . . I've never bought the argument that they were "experimental" (a very over-used adjective in music criticism imho.)
