I believe music is a continued development of other peoples ideas and further development by an artist or band is successful if it adds something purposeful. Nobody invents anything musically and the idea that anyone does is preposterous. I think Radiohead produce good results on occasion and for me, they successfully add 'soul' and warmth to often complicated and difficult (in rock band format) patterns of music. Not keen personally on the vocals or some of the ideas but think they have a knack for a good tune - the 'Tourist' is a belter in my opinion. This is a matter of personal opinion like everything is and in my personal opinion, Robert Fripp has only ever achieved warmth in his music by collaboration with other artists, like Eno or Bowie. I think his music is cold, calculated and up its own arse most of the time, especially his later Crimson work.
