'Brand' is a good description, and for better or worse he's become a figurehead for what some call a 'fundamentalist humanism'. He's often quite shrill, so I can see how that label might fit...!

Having said that, and despite the biases that can compromise scientific research, I find it hard to believe that any scientist worth their PhD would ignore overwhelming evidence in support of a hypothesis. Even if it wasn't coherent with the current paradigm.

Then again, perhaps we can only discover what our experimental hardware can detect, and what can be conceptualized by current theories. It's difficult to imagine Galileo having any conception of 'dark matter' or the Higgs-Boson. There's surely a lot more to discover (thank goodness).
