I agree, but if that is the case then the focus of the conversation becomes about something else entirely, rather than a simple question of whether one can accomplish a particular task.
If fear of failure is due to the possibility of a loss of personal identity, we are looking at something much deeper.
People can find great comfort in holding beliefs which cannot necessarily be proven, and I am not against that in any way.
