Sure. Clearly the rope could not be allowed to drag along the ground.

I can think of three ways that it might be done:

1. The stone could be dragged on a sledge to which the ropes are attached.
2. Ropes could be fastened longitudinally around the stone (shape permitting).
3. A wooden yolk could be made for the "stern" of the stone and the ropes attached to each side of that, possibly coming together at the front to balance the pulling forces.
